the Sublime Experience of Starting Anew
April 23 – May 14, 2006
Goddard
House celebrated spring, new life, fresh starts, rebirth, and
other experiences of beginnings with its fourth annual art show
through May 14. The Art of Beginnings featured the works of 23
local artists in a variety of media: photography, painting, clay,
metalwork, fiber, wood, and paper. Art sale commissions and a
raffle benefited Greater Worcester Habitat
for Humanity.
The
Art of Beginnings exhibitors included: Nancy Benoit,
Louise Berendes, Pat Bock, Emily Boosahda, Julie Brownlee, Chris
Buelow, Carrie Crane, Linda Davis, Mary Dewey, Chris Greene, Kathleen
Hendrick, Iris Lanyon, Dan McCann, Peggy Morris, Ron Rosenstock,
Mary Clare Ryan, Donalyn Schofield, Susan Sedgwick, Sid Solomon,
John Stevens, Julia Vera, Mary Walter, and Mary Estes Zywar.
The
Worcester County Poetry Association held a poetry reading at Goddard
House on Wednesday, May 10 from 7 to 8 p.m. with
a wine and cheese reception at 6:30 p.m. Poets read original works
on the theme of beginnings and art.

A
New Direction for Worcester: April 26, 2006
On
Wednesday, April 26 a lively group of community members gathered
at Goddard House for a public forum, led by Erin I. Williams,
Worcester Cultural Development Officer and Executive Director
of the Cultural Coalition, and Ellen S. Dunlap, President of the
American Antiquarian Society and Chairman of the Coalition Board.
The spirited discussion centered on the new “Worcester Way” and
“Creative City Initiative” and what they mean for the city’s future.
This was part of an ongoing conversation throughout the city about
how to inspire and nurture creativity in our special community.
Exhibit
opening: April 23, 2006
The
Art of Beginnings opened with a Champagne and Chocolate Reception
on Sunday, April 23. In addition to viewing the
art while enjoying decadent desserts (including a very popular
chocolate fountain!), guests met the artists and listened to the
toe-tapping sounds of Chet Williamson’s Chromatic Swing duo.
